Shopping Fun!
I got the urge to go out shopping today – I know, I already have too much stuff that needs to be listed – but I came across a few things on craigslist I just had to have…so after I packed up my sold items for UPS and set them out for pick-up, off I went!
First stop was a young man selling a variety of items; 2 partial sets of silverplate, an assortment of crystal that he and his bride had received at their wedding, a set of dishes his grandmother had bought for him in the 1980’s!!! and recently gave to him as a wedding gift.
I went for the silverplate – which included the vintage mahogany silverware chest. He had told me the box was in terrible shape, so I was expecting a mess, actually it is in pretty good condition, and it is a cool, 1920’s art deco style.
I passed on the dishes, it was a set of 1980’s fine china, Floral Splendor by Johann Haviland. All still sealed in the plastic and in the original boxes, so it was in perfect, brand new condition, 8 place settings plus serving pieces, but I just couldn’t get excited about it. I just thought it was funny that his grandmother had bought him a set of china in the 1980’s. He didn’t even look like he was old enough to be born in the 1980’s!
He also had 8 anchor hocking boopie sherbets and 8 water goblets, still in the original cardboard boxes and a NIB Libbey Sangria set, that he said was probably a regift – given to them at their wedding. I think it is a nice set – but I am partial to Sangria anyway.
Then off to another person selling a set of Homer Laughlin Eggshell Nautilus, it was little more worn than I had anticipated – which I really didn’t notice until I got it home. And the covered vegetable had a broken and repaired handle, which the buyer did point out to me. Oh well, it was cheap. Maybe I can use it in a mosaic.
I stopped in really quick at the local SA and I picked up a few odds and ends, like a set of Lenox Village napkin rings (porcelain), and a pretty silverplated Godinger salad fork. Too bad they didn’t have the matching spoon, but I have a fancy Princess House serving spoon I think it will look nice with.
Oh and I found such a cute set of Syracuse railroad restaurant china. It is a pink floral, cherry blossoms I think, and is in a square shape called “Trend”. The pattern is Berkley. Really pretty!
